Holy Island:

A little island near Berwick upon Tweek. You can reach it only by car during low tide. So better check the tide timetable, before leaving the main land. Don't try to leave Holy Island later as stated on the timetable.

Lindisfarne Castle is definitive the main attraction on this little island. Don't miss the Lindisfarne Prior. The castle is a National Trust property.

Opening times:
1 April to 31 Oct: daily except Fri (but open Good Fri). As Lindisfarne is a tidal island times vary so that visitors may reach the castle at low tide. On open days the castle will open for 4¼hrs, which will always include 12–3. It will either open earlier or later, depending on the tide.
Garden open only when gardener is present, usually Fri but phone in advance

Entrance fee

Note: No large camera cases, boxes or rucksacks. No WC.

Berwick upon Tweek:

Nice middle sized old town. A must when you visit Holy Island. Direct train connects to Newcastle and as well (not so often) to Edinburgh. Visit the churches and the castle.
